Spring Fling The Mt. Ephraim PTO and the Teachers Association held a Spring Fling on April 16. The event was open to students from Mary Bray and Kershaw schools. The teachers association sponsored an ice cream table. Students were invited to enjoy free ice cream, whipped cream and all the toppings! The teachers also held a flower sale, where parents could purchase a flower for fifty cents and have it donated in honor of their student. The teachers raised $83 that evening. The event was so popular that they are extending the sale until April 27. There was also a student election to vote for which administrator would teach a lesson to a winning homeroom. The winning administrator was Mr. Joe Rafferty, principal of the Kershaw School and Chief School Administrator. He will be teaching a social studies lesson to Mrs. Conley’s eighth grade homeroom. Also, there was tie for the classes with the most participation. The homework passes were awarded to Mrs. Oliveti’s third grade class and Mrs. McCloskey’s fourth grade class. Mrs. Zettlemoyer, media center aide at the Kershaw School, had a table that evening to celebrate National Library Week with a free book drawing. Students from each grade and an adult won free books. The winning students are as follows: Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten winners were undisclosed, 1st grade: John Myers; 2nd grade: Lucas Greenwood; 3rd grade: Elijah Lapp; 4th grade: Zachary Holmes; 5th grade: Alison Guldin; 6th grade: Emily DiPopolo; 7th grade: Frank Mawson and the adult winner was Joan Greenwood. Mr. Joe DiMitri provided music for the evening; the students, teachers and administrators were all up dancing. |

Battle of the Books Over 30 students from the RW Kershaw School in grades 5 through 8 are competing again this year in Battle of the Books. This is the fifth year that the Mt. Ephraim district has competed. There will be two 5th/6th grade teams and two 7th/8th grade teams, each consisting of six students. Each student has to complete as many books as they can out of the 15 titles that are required this year. Also, as part of the team eligibility, students must attend meetings after school. Last year, the 5th/6th grade team won first place in the competition. The seventh and eighth grade students will be attending the Avon School in Barrington on May 2 for their competition. The competition for the fifth and sixth grade students will be on May 9th and they will be going to the Volz School in Runnemede. Good luck to all of our participants. |
